The Arc of Alabama, Inc. provides the following services for members, local chapters, people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, other disability organizations, and the general public:

Annual State Convention

The Arc of Alabama, Inc. sponsors an Annual Convention, showcasing the accomplishments of people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The Convention also provides professional and public education and training on issues and topics of interest to members of The Arc of Alabama, Inc. as well as professionals providing community-based services throughout Alabama.

Advocacy

The Arc of Alabama, Inc. engages in a variety of advocacy activities, including state and federal executive and legislative advocacy.

Information and Referral

Through a grant from the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, The Arc of Alabama, Inc. provides information and referral services to people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, as well as other state and local community service agencies.

Respite Program

Through grants from the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, The Arc of Alabama, Inc.administers the Alabama Respite Care Services Program. This Program awards grants to families of children and adults  with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities to pay for the costs of in-home respite care services.

Local Chapter Support

The Arc of Alabama, Inc. provides training and support services to its thirty-one (31) local chapters. Board Member Training and technical assistance is provided for officers and board members of local chapters.

Newsletter

The Arc of Alabama, Inc. publishes a quarterly newsletter that is sent to members and interested persons and organizations. These newsletters include articles of federal, state and local news affecting people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, and articles on activities of The Arc of Alabama, Inc. its officers, directors, and local chapters.

New Chapter Development

The Arc of Alabama, Inc. provides assistance to people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, friends, and other community leaders in organizing new local chapters of The Arc.
